Biography
Yasser Rostom, born in Cairo in 1971, is a renowned contemporary artist known for his surrealist works. His art uniquely blends the ancient pharaonic culture of Egypt with abstract forms. Rostom graduated from Helwan University’s Art Education faculty in 1996 and later earned a master’s degree in decoration from Milan, Italy. He also specialized in interior architecture and obtained a master’s degree in painting and sculpture. In 2009, he received his Ph.D. in painting from the Domus Academy in Milan.
Rostom’s artwork encourages reflection on everyday life and broader human concerns. His pieces, often dazzling and mysterious, contain symbolism that critiques the contradictions of modern life, using imagination as a form of protest. Influenced by surrealist artists like Salvador Dalí, Rostom’s work incorporates the dreamlike, irrational, and subconscious elements of surrealism.
He passed away in 2024.
