Biography
Mahmood Shubbar, born in Iraq in 1965, comes from a background steeped in artistry in Babylon Governorate. He began his artistic journey at prestigious institutions such as the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad, where he laid the foundation for his career in painting. Graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Painting from the University of Babylon in 1995, Shubbar distinguished himself as the top student among Iraqi universities the following year.
Continuing his academic pursuits, Shubbar obtained a Master’s degree in 2006 and later a Ph.D., focusing his research on “Illusion and Reality in Contemporary European Paintings,” a thesis that earned him high acclaim. His contributions to the art world extend beyond academia; he has managed galleries in Beirut and established his own Afkar Gallery in Hamra. Currently residing in Dubai, Shubbar holds a Golden Residence card, recognizing his significant cultural and artistic contributions.
