Biography
Zouhair Dabbagh was born in Aleppo in 1953 and is a distinguished contemporary sculptor and painter. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the Sculpture Department of Damascus University in 1977. Since the 1970s, he has showcased his work in exhibitions across Aleppo, Beirut, Singapore, Istanbul, London, Paris, Geneva, Bulgaria, and Luxembourg.
Dabbagh’s artistic exploration focuses on human and animal forms in sculpture, blending naturalistic and unfinished qualities to evoke a sense of simultaneous decomposition and formation, akin to witnessing the genesis of life itself. His sculptures freeze movement, allowing detailed studies of anatomy, emotion, and spirit. In his paintings, Dabbagh experiments with color, treating it as an active and independent element within his work. His canvases, approached with a sculptor’s mindset, become expressions of body and motion, layered with dynamic textures and pigments that evoke a sense of timelessness. His artworks are held in the permanent collection of the Damascus Museum, as well as in private collections in Ankara, Dubai, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Paris, and Canada.
