Noor Bahjat

Biography

Noor Bahjat was born in Damascus, Syria in 1991 and now lives and works in the United Arab Emirates. She graduated with honours from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Damascus. Despite struggling with perspective during her studies, she transformed this challenge into her signature still-life style. Her work is included in public and private collections across the Middle East, Asia, and Europe. She has exhibited at Ayyam Gallery Dubai, Atassi Foundation, Ward Gallery, Galerie Stephanie in Manila, Art Space DA: MDAA in Seoul, Maraya Art Centre in Sharjah, and Gli Acrobati Gallery in Turin.

Bahjat is a surrealist self-portrait artist known for her painterly expressionistic style and primarily figurative subject matter. She creates deeply atmospheric canvases featuring a recurring female protagonist, exploring the complexities of life. After visiting the Philippines in 2016, her palette and visual narrative changed significantly, incorporating brighter backgrounds and elements of nature and water. Allowing her subconscious to guide her, Bahjat’s imaginative still-life narratives yearn for simplicity and evoke rich, detailed scenes.
