Nizar Othman

Biography

Nizar Othman, a visual artist of Syrian descent born in Lebanon, embarked on his professional journey as a journalist and caricaturist. His talents earned him notable accolades, including the Bronze Medal and the Excellence Award at the Guangxi International Comics in 2007 (University City Guangxi, China), and a Special Honorary Prize at the International Journal of Rhino Competition in 2008 (Bosnia and Herzegovina).

Othman’s artistic process is deeply influenced by his journalistic background, as evidenced in his meticulously painted portraits where subjects are often draped in newspapers or interact with them as props. Against vibrant, vividly colored backgrounds and with delineated forms, Othman’s work places emphasis on the enigmatic expressions of his subjects. He held his inaugural solo exhibition at the Russian Cultural Center in Beirut in 2010 and later participated in the group exhibition *Creative Artists 6* at the Arab Cultural Club in Beirut in 2012. His works are held in the collections of the Ministry of Culture in Lebanon, Ayyam Gallery, and various private collectors.
