Biography
Naji Chalhoub, a Lebanese artist, is renowned for his evocative line drawings that delve into the psychological and emotional realms of human experience. His distinctive use of pen and paper produces intricate, continuous scribbles that capture a sense of unease and torment.
His series *The Mouth of Madness* exemplifies this, featuring unsettling figures with hollowed-out eyes and sinister smiles, rendered in manic black ink with occasional splashes of red. Chalhoub’s work often includes recurring symbols, such as the tender embrace of a mother and child, and flies representing death and decay. His art is marked by empty, claustrophobic spaces and strong, oppressive lines that convey feelings of loneliness, anxiety, and desperation.
