Biography
Layal Khawly, a Beirut native, combines her background in Interior Architecture from ALBA with a Master’s in Visual Arts to create evocative works that explore the architectural and structural intricacies of Lebanese urban and rural landscapes. Her paintings, characterized by layered techniques, capture the dynamic interplay between the simplicity of village life and the vibrant modernity of the city. In her own words, Khawly finds inspiration in the duality of nature and urbanity, where every stone tells a story and the city offers a canvas of modernity and color.
In 2016, Khawly represented Lebanon at the National Museum of Art in Shanghai, an achievement that marked her international presence. Her career also includes collaborations with UNESCO on refugee art projects, exhibitions at the World Bank in Washington DC and Expo Dubai 2020, and a prominent painting of Lebanon’s cedar tree displayed at the presidential palace in Beirut. Named a leading NGO ambassador for Lebanon of Tomorrow in 2021, Khawly advocates for justice, equality, and unity through her art, underscoring her belief in the transformative power of integrating architecture and visual expression.
