Biography
Marwan Sahmarani, born in Beirut in 1970, honed his artistic vision at l’École Supérieur d’Art Graphique in Paris. His oil paintings, renowned for their explosive colors and frenetic brushwork, reflect a transformative journey from surrealist figure distortions to a unique form of abstraction. Sahmarani’s work seamlessly intertwines Arabo-Islamic cultural elements with Western iconography, capturing the tumultuous impact of war and the complexities of individualism.
With a distinguished exhibition record, Sahmarani has showcased his work in solo exhibitions across Beirut, London, Montreal, and Dubai, and has participated in group shows in Washington and Mexico. His achievements include winning the Abraaj Capital Art Prize in 2010 and contributing to the “Art Beyond Violence” exhibition at the Singapore Art Fair (Lebanese Pavilion) in 2012.
