Hiba Kalache

Biography

Hiba Kalache, born in Lebanon in 1972, is an interdisciplinary artist whose work includes installation, drawing, painting, sculpture, and interactive projects. She often uses materials and themes from her daily life. In 2005, she earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from California College of the Arts in San Francisco. Since then, she has exhibited her work in cities like Beirut, Berlin, Brussels, Istanbul, New Orleans, Oakland, San Jose, San Francisco, Tehran, Athens, London, and Paris. Her work has also been shown at art fairs including MENART Fair, Art Dubai, Abu Dhabi Art Fair, Drawing Now in Paris, and Gwangju Art in South Korea.

Kalache explores the divide between private and public life, focusing on “the banality of daily rituals.” She is interested in themes like female desire and the difficult aspects of truth, and she looks at the possibility of imagining a future in an era of constant present. In “Our Dreams are a Second Life,” Hiba Kalache presented work that continued the themes of her recent practice. Created during a time of ongoing crises, this work subtly reflected the times.
