Biography
Born in Damascus, Syria in 1976, Elias Izoli is a self-taught painter whose artistic prowess became evident early in life. His distinctive style, characterized by vivid colors and gestural, fragmented brushstrokes, captures the emotional intensity of children caught in political violence. Izoli’s portraits defy traditional portraiture, blending bold color use with a deep sense of loss and sadness.
At just seventeen, he held his first solo exhibition at the Russian Cultural Centre in Damascus. Over the years, he has exhibited at Ayyam Gallery in Beirut and Dubai in 2010, 2012, and 2013. Izoli continues to live and work in Damascus, where his work reflects the profound impact of conflict on his subjects, balancing intimacy with the stark realities of violence.
