Amer Shomali

Biography

Amer Shomali, born in Kuwait in 1981, is a Palestinian multidisciplinary artist. He holds a BSc in Architecture from Birzeit University in Palestine and a Master’s degree in Animation from Bournemouth University in the UK. Shomali uses various mediums, including painting, films, digital media, installations, and comics, to explore and engage with the sociopolitical landscape in Palestine. His work often delves into the creation and use of Palestinian revolutionary iconography.

Shomali’s art is featured in notable collections such as the British Museum, the Arab World Institute, and the Barjeel Art Foundation. He co-directed the acclaimed animated documentary “The Wanted 18,” which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2014. The film won several awards at festivals in Abu Dhabi, Carthage, Traverse City, and Al-Jazeera, and was shortlisted for the foreign language and documentary categories of the 88th Oscars.
