Ahmed Al Bahrani

Biography

Ahmed Al Bahrani, born in Babel in 1965, is a contemporary Iraqi artist and sculptor renowned for his work in abstract and conceptual styles. He graduated from the Fine Arts Institute in Baghdad in 1988 and taught at the Academy of Fine Arts from 1992 to 1994. After relocating to Qatar in 1998, he co-founded Mimar Gallery with architect Hazem Abu Naba’a and has since gained notable recognition in the Gulf art scene.

Al Bahrani’s art, which includes painting, printmaking, and reliefs, explores modern-day conditions through abstract and contemporary approaches. His works often use rough, unbreakable metals to express distressing narratives of war, tackling themes of marginalization with both figural and non-figural representations. His art has been featured in prominent venues such as Art Sawa Gallery in Dubai and Albareh Art Gallery in Bahrain and has been commissioned for public works across Iraq, Qatar, and the Middle East. Constantly evolving his artistic approach, Al Bahrani continues to transform etched memories into powerful, impactful statements. He currently lives and works in Qatar.
