Adnene Hadj Sassi

Biography

Born in Sfax in 1961, Adnene Hadj Sassi is an accomplished painter with a degree in Sciences and Techniques of the Arts. His artistic practice is driven by a profound curiosity and an intrinsic doubt, motivating him to explore varied approaches to the same thematic core. Central to his exploration is the line, which he seeks to imbue with expressive depth through an array of techniques. His methodologies encompass simple marks, such as traces, alongside more complex techniques including rubbing, engraving, and concealment, applied across diverse formats and scales.

For decades, Hadj Sassi has been a dedicated art educator, serving at the Tunis Institute of Fine Arts since 1996. His dual roles as artist and educator converge in the studio and classroom, each functioning as a crucible of boundless and potent creativity. In 2004, he was honored with the first prize from the Ministry of Culture. Between 1994 and 2011, he was a prominent participant in the annual exhibitions of the Union of Tunisian Plastic Artists and has showcased his work extensively in both group and solo exhibitions, notably at the Centre des Arts Vivants in Rades in 2004.
