Biography
Abdullah Murad, born in Homs, Syria in 1944, is a distinguished Syrian artist celebrated for his contributions to abstract expressionism in the Arab world. He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Damascus in 1970. Murad’s experimental paintings and drawings are known for their asymmetric compositions and bold use of color, drawing inspiration from Fauvist palettes and arabesque designs.
His work often features mixed-media elements such as collages and cut-outs, adding textual layers and enhancing the visual complexity. In 1984, he won first prize at the “Greeting to Miro and Picasso” exhibition at the Spanish Cultural Centre in Damascus. Murad is a member of the Syrian Syndicate of Fine Arts and the Arab Artists Union.
Murad’s art has been exhibited in numerous international group and solo shows across Syria, Lebanon, France, Turkey, Bulgaria, Switzerland, the UK, and the Gulf. His works are held in various public and private collections, including the Sharjah Museum in the UAE, the National Museum of Damascus, the Dalloul Art Foundation, and the Syrian Ministry of Culture.
