Biography
Sogol Kashani, born in 1979 in Tehran, is an Iranian contemporary artist who grew up during the Iran-Iraq war. She began drawing and painting at a young age and studied graphics at the School of Fine Arts from 1994 to 1998. In 2004, she completed her BA in Fashion and Textile Design from the University of Science and Culture in Tehran.
Kashani’s paintings, often characterized by bodies and figures addressing socio-political issues, are executed with delicate pencil work on large canvases and raw, rough ink drawings. Her practice relies on existing visual materials, including drawings, photographs, and video. In 2010, she co-founded SOGOL AND JOUBEEN STUDIO, a curatorial platform for artistic projects like installation art shows and documentation projects. Sogol was a guest of the French Government at Cite des Arts in Paris, where she exhibited a selection of her works.
