Khalid Takreti

Biography

Khaled Takreti, born in Beirut in 1964, studied architecture at Damascus University before discovering his passion for painting. He moved to Paris in 2006, where he studied engraving at the Atelier des Beaux-Arts and graduated in 2011. He also studied comic art at the Académie des Arts de Bruxelles, graduating in 2020. Takreti’s work, influenced by pop art aesthetics, primarily focuses on the human figure. His pieces often carry symbolic meanings, using colour and perspective to critique both the self and society, and some address the impact of the war in Syria.

Takreti has held numerous solo exhibitions and participated in many group shows. His works are displayed in museums worldwide, including the Institut du Monde Arabe and the National Museum of the History of Immigration in Paris, as well as the Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art in Qatar. Recognised for his innovative approach to portraiture, Takreti blends personal narrative with explorations of modern social themes, influencing a new generation of contemporary Arab painters.
