Biography
Born in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Fatima Al Mazrouie is a distinguished visual artist who graduated with a degree in Visual Arts and Design from Zayed University. Her work delves deeply into the concepts of womanhood, focusing particularly on the experiences of Muslim women in the Arab world. Al Mazrouie’s mixed-media canvases prominently feature Islamic calligraphy intertwined with images and found objects, symbolizing the varied representations of women in the region. Recently, her collages have expanded to explore the broader socio-cultural history of the UAE.
Al Mazrouie’s artistic journey began with her participation in a group exhibition at the Salwa Zeidan Gallery in 2009. By 2013, she had become the gallery’s ‘Signature Artist’ at Abu Dhabi Art. Her works have been auctioned at Sotheby’s in Doha, Qatar, in 2010, and are held in esteemed public and private collections, including the Zayed National Museum. In 2013, she was selected to represent the UAE-Germany Art Exchange Programme, hosted by Damen and the Lepsien Art Foundation’s residency programme. Al Mazrouie has exhibited her art widely, both internationally and within the UAE.
