Tagreed Dargouth

Biography

Tagreed Darghouth, born in 1979 in Saida, Lebanon, pursued her studies in Painting and Sculpture at the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts before continuing at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (ENSAD) in Paris. She further honed her craft under the guidance of Syrian-German artist Marwan Kassab-Bachi at Darat Al Funoun in Amman. Darghouth has exhibited her work internationally at venues such as Arteclassica in Buenos Aires, the Royal College of Art in London, and Taymour Grahne Gallery in New York.

Darghouth’s art employs abstract impressionism and impasto techniques to delve into themes of structural violence, popular culture, and marginalized communities. Her figurative acrylic paintings, including the Mirror Mirror series, critically examine issues such as cosmetic surgery’s impact on beauty standards and the treatment of domestic workers in Lebanon. These works challenge viewers to reflect on societal norms and their complicity in perpetuating them. Additionally, her acrylic paintings addressing nuclear threats, such as *No Where To Hide* (2015), provoke contemplation on contemporary geopolitical precariousness and militarization.

Influenced by artists ranging from Lucian Freud and Georg Baselitz to Rembrandt, Chaim Soutine, and Willem de Kooning, Darghouth’s work integrates philosophical, musical, literary, and historical references, offering a rich tapestry of cultural and historical commentary.
