Rim El Jundi

Biography

Born in Beirut in 1965, Rim El Jundi embarked on her artistic journey with studies in religious art at the University of the Holy Spirit in Kaslik, followed by fine art at the Lebanese American University, where she was honored with the Sheikh Zayed Graduation Award in 1997. Her training is vividly apparent in her paintings, which blend the intricate colors and compositions of stained-glass windows with classical iconography, yet are rendered in a contemporary style reminiscent of pop art. This unique approach provides a thought-provoking portrayal of Beirut and its sociopolitical landscape.

El Jundi’s works are permanently showcased at Galerie Janine Rubeiz in Beirut. Her artistic prowess has been displayed in various exhibitions, including the Alexandria Biennale in 1997 and Cork Street Gallery in London in 2004. She garnered acclaim from the jury at the Alexandria Biennale and was awarded the ‘Prix de Triangle Art pour une résidence d’artiste’ at the Vermont Studio Centre in 2005, with support from the Ford Foundation.
