Biography
Born in 1973, Tunisian artist Omar Bey is a graduate of L’Institut Supérieur des Beaux-Arts (1998) and completed a residency at Cité Internationale des Arts in 2012. His distinctive practice blends painting, collage, and found object assemblages to create a unique manipulation of materials that elicits surprise, humor, and deep reflection. His work delves into the paradoxical excesses of human existence, exploring absurdities through unconventional material choices. The interplay between textures—where solid, heavy elements contrast with light, airy materials—imparts a distinctive “quirk” to his creations. Bey’s art resonates with the spirit of “art brut,” marked by its dynamic juxtaposition of contrasting elements.
