Biography
Katya A. Traboulsi, born in 1960, is a Beirut-based multimedia artist renowned for her evocative exploration of the Lebanese Civil War’s impact. Her practice, marked by the bold use of color, contrasts starkly with the somber themes she addresses. Her 2018 solo exhibition, *Perpetual Identities*, held at the Saleh Barakat Gallery, showcased 46 handcrafted replicas of Lebanese war bomb shells, embellished with vibrant patterns and beads, transforming these symbols of destruction into intricate works of art.
In 2013, Traboulsi published *Generation War*, a significant project paying homage to the photojournalists who captured the civil war of the 1980s, aiming to document Lebanon’s complex history. Traboulsi resided in Dubai from 1989 to 2016 before returning to Beirut. Her work has been exhibited internationally since 1986 in cities including Paris, London, Dubai, Kuwait, New York, and at notable institutions such as the Algerian Museum of Modern Art and the International Armory Show.
