Imed Jemaiel

Biography

Born in Bizerte, Tunisia in 1965, Imed Jemaiel redirected his focus to the arts after spending two years in medical school. In 1990, he completed his degree in Fine Arts, specializing in printmaking. By 1992, he had begun teaching at the Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Tunisia. Influenced by the Dadaist movement, Jemaiel is not only an art critic but also a mentor who inspires his students to draw from their youth and emotional memories, all with a sense of playfulness.

His work has been featured in numerous group exhibitions in Tunisia, including the Spring of the Arts and the annual exhibition of the Union of Tunisian Plastic Artists. In 2014, he held his inaugural solo exhibition, “Les Dessous des Ratures” (Beneath the Crossings Out), at the Ammar Farhat Gallery. In this series, Jemaiel explores his fascination with language through captivating and intricate combinations of ancient symbols and codes, inviting viewers to ponder the interplay between the spoken and the enigmatic.
