Ghassan Zard

Biography

Born in Lebanon in 1954, Ghassan Zard lives and works in Beirut. Initially influenced by lyrical abstraction, Zard started his artistic career as a painter before shifting his focus predominantly to sculpture. His works, crafted from polished wood, aluminum, and raw steel, often appear playful at first glance but reveal darker undertones upon closer inspection. His turtle-like figurative sculptures, with their nodding, featureless heads, evoke a sense of subservience and passivity, hinting at underlying tension or violence.

Zard has exhibited extensively, showcasing his work in both group and solo exhibitions across Beirut, Paris, Munich, and Venice.
