Biography
Born in 1969 in Lebanon, Anachar Basbous lives with his family in Rachana, a village renowned for its open-air sculptures overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Raised in a family of artists—his father, Michel Basbous, was a prominent sculptor and his mother a writer and poet—Anachar’s artistic journey began early, with his first sculpture created at the age of ten.
He initially studied Architecture at the Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts (ALBA) but left due to the Lebanese Civil War, later continuing his education in architectural wall design at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts et des Métiers d’Art in Paris. Returning to Lebanon in 1992, he established a sculpture workshop in Rachana, where he focuses on stone, wood, metal, and murals. His works are prominently displayed in public spaces, private collections, and hotels across Lebanon, France, the USA, the UK, Canada, and the UAE. In 2008, he created a significant ten-meter bronze sculpture in Downtown Beirut to commemorate Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.
